Evolve is an intensive outpatient program (IOP) that treats adolescents ages 12-17 struggling with a mental health and/or substance use disorder. The experienced team of licensed, professional clinicians come from a place of empathy, compassion, and understanding. They teach practical tools that address the underlying cause of addiction and help improve relationships with families and peers. Every treatment plan is unique and catered to the needs of each individual. Therapy is holistic and can include traditional talk therapy, motivational interviewing (MI), seeking safety, applied behavioral ...analysis (ABA), 12-Step support groups, process group therapy, art and music therapy, family counseling, yoga, and much more. Evolve San Diego serves a maxim of 10 teenagers at a time, with a teen-adult ratio of 3:1. Treatment hours are Monday-Thursday 1:00 a.m.- 7:00 p.m. and Friday 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Conditions

ADHD, ADD

A condition where someone struggles to focus, stay organized, or control impulses. They might feel restless, act without thinking, or have trouble completing tasks. It’s common in both kids and adults and can make school, work, or daily life challenging.

Anger

A normal emotion that can become a problem when it’s intense, frequent, or hard to control. Problematic anger can lead to outbursts, arguments, or even physical actions that harm relationships or safety.

Anxiety

Feeling overly worried, nervous, or afraid about everyday situations. Anxiety can cause racing thoughts, a fast heartbeat, or avoidance of certain places or tasks, making it hard to feel calm or in control.

Bipolar

A condition causing extreme mood swings, from feeling very high and energetic (mania) to very low and sad (depression). These shifts can disrupt daily life, relationships, and decision-making.

Codependency

A pattern where someone prioritizes another person’s needs over their own, often in unhealthy relationships. They may feel responsible for others’ happiness, struggle with boundaries, or fear being alone.

Depression

A mood disorder causing persistent sadness, hopelessness, or loss of interest in life. It can make it hard to sleep, eat, work, or enjoy things, and may feel like a heavy weight that won’t lift.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

A condition where someone has unwanted, repetitive thoughts (obsessions) or feels compelled to do certain actions (compulsions), like excessive cleaning or checking, to ease

Self-Harm

Intentionally hurting oneself, such as cutting or burning, often to cope with emotional pain, stress, or overwhelming feelings. It’s a sign someone needs help to find healthier ways to manage.

Stress

A feeling of being overwhelmed or unable to cope with pressures from work, relationships, or life changes. It can cause irritability, trouble sleeping, or physical symptoms like headaches.

Suicidality

Thoughts or actions related to wanting to end one’s life. It’s a serious sign of distress, often linked to depression, trauma, or other mental health struggles, requiring immediate support.

Trauma

Emotional or psychological harm from a distressing event, like abuse, an accident, or loss. Trauma can cause ongoing fear, sadness, or difficulty trusting others and may need time to heal.
